Download Instructions

Follow the instructions below to download bonus content. (Bonus content includes any animals, items, sounds, or scenarios.)

Note: Bonus content does not include trial versions or patches. See Trial Versions and Patches for instructions on downloading and installing these items.

Download Files:

Right-click on the file name and choose Save Target As from the menu. A 'Save As' window appears.

Choose the location to which you want to save your downloaded files. (You may want to make a folder on your desktop just for these files—you can delete it later, after you've installed your new content into Zoo Tycoon.)

Click Save. The file is saved to the location you specified in step 2.

Open Zip Files:

Many bonus downloads are packaged in .zip files. Follow the instructions below to unpack these files so you can install them into Zoo Tycoon.

Note: You will need an unzip utility in order to unpack .zip files. There are a number of free and paid unzip utilities available on the Internet.

Zoo Tycoon 2 Patch Download Free

Locate the downloaded .zip file on your hard drive.

Double-click the .zip file. Your unzip utility should open.

Choose extract to unpackage the .zip files. (Be sure to choose an easy-to-remember location for the unzipped files.)

Note: If you have difficulty unzipping .zip files, please refer to the Help file included with your unzip utility.

Install New Content:

Now that you've downloaded your new content, you'll need to install it into Zoo Tycoon.

Launch Zoo Tycoon. The Main menu appears.

Click Get New Zoo Tycoon Items. The Update screen appears.

Click Check Locally. The 'Check for New Items' window appears.

Navigate to the location on your computer where you saved your downloaded content file(s).

Click to select the new content file(s). (CTRL+Click to select multiple files.)

Click Open. A Zoo Tycoon message appears asking whether you'd like to restart Zoo Tycoon in order for the changes to take effect. Note: You must restart Zoo Tycoon to see your new content.

Click Yes to restart Zoo Tycoon. Zoo Tycoon will shut down and attempt to restart itself. If Zoo Tycoon fails to restart, please launch the game as you would normally.

Note: Some content, such as the Reindeer and fancy buildings, will only become available after a certain amount of time has passed. Fancy buildings, for example, are unlocked after 3 months. Also, some downloadable items (such as the yeti and bongo) require two files: a .ztd file and a .dll file (example: bongo.ztd, bongo.dll). Be sure to download both files.

Trial Versions

How to download Trial Versions:

Right-click the Download Trial Version link and select Save Target As... from the menu.

Choose a location to which you'd like to save the trial version installer file. You'll need to be able to find it easily.
Click Save. The file is downloaded saved to the specified location.
Navigate to the downloaded installer file (example: 'zootycoon.exe') and double-click to launch the installer.
Follow the onscreen instructions to install your trial version.

The mountain lion, also known as the cougar, panther, or puma, is the most widely distributed large cat in the Americas. Mountain lions are solitary, strongly territorial hunters who, unlike most cat species, may be active during the day.

The Plateosaurus (plat-ee-oh-sore-us) is a plant-eating dinosaur from the Triassic period. Its name means 'flat lizard.' Plateosaurus fossils have been found in France, Germany and Switzerland.

Megatherium

A massive sloth-like animal, the Megatherium was as tall as an elephant and could weigh upwards of eight thousand pounds as a mature adult. The Megatherium existed during the Ice Age.

African Wild Dog

The African Wild Dog is an endangered species. Typically, they are a mixture of black yellow and white; however, their patterns vary so drastically that one hardly ever looks like another. They are a social animal, and tend to travel in large packs.

Beach Resort Scenario

A wealthy hotel tycoon has started a new beach resort in the Bahamas. He has decided to build a zoo near his hotel as an attraction to guests. He has put you in charge of selecting the animals for the zoo and making the zoo a success. He has set aside a large plot of land with many varied terrain types that he insists will be adequate for a wide variety of animals; he asks only that you choose a diverse selection of animals from around the globe.

The Beach Resort scenario requires three files to run. Please note that these files will only run on the english version of Zoo Tycoon.

We recommend that you download the update manually by following these steps:

Right-click Download the Update above and choose Save Target As from the menu.

Choose the location to which you want to save the file, then click Save. The file begins downloading.
When the download is complete, navigate to the download location and double-click the ZPATCH.EXE file to begin installation.
When installation is complete, launch Zoo Tycoon. To confirm that the update was installed successfully, check the version number in the lower right-hand corner of the Main menu screen (it should read 'Version number 10.10.00.0009').

Windows XP SP1 patch

If you have recently purchased a new computer with Windows XP SP1 installed, or if you have done a clean installation (not an upgrade to your existing Windows XP installation) of Windows XP SP1, you may have encountered an issue wherein Zoo Tycoon will lock up when trying to play the intro movies. The new patch will solve this problem.
